What's New on Snakeden.Org

03-03-2004

Welp, it's now been one year since I first started my flying lessons. So, in usual rush-right-in form, I done did bought a plane. Be sure to go to the pictures section to see the bloated and rushed pix I've taken, even if the majority of them are of our dogs, with the plane merely being an afterthought =)

She's a 1966 Cessna 172G, N4116L. O-300D 145hp 6 cylinder engine rebuilt in '95 with 550 hours put on it since then. The airframe only has about 1850 hours on it. The new paint and interior is from 2001, and still looks quite sharp. Minimally IFR equipped. 885 lbs useful load. 42 gal fuel. 120 kt cruise. 600 nm range on a full tank. 13,000 ft ceiling. Etc, ad naseum.

Wow. It has been 5 years to the day since I moved to Arizona. And over two years since I've bothered to make any entry here. I really should post things here more often.
Anyhoo, for those who don't keep up so much, work is work, all is well, and I just passed my FAA checkride and got my private pilot certificate on 11/14/03. I'm a flyin' fool, yo.

I added some more pictures, including some of the server room, which is still in the setup stages.
Also, for those few of you who still bother(poor sods), the BBS is, in fact, reacable via telnet once again.

Added pictures of my new house. Working on installing our network in the new house. We've already begun setting up a server room and added cat5 wall outlets throughout the entire house for our private LAN, as well as setting up a mean-ass firewall to protect 3 seperate network segmentsin preparation for our final push to actually make darkdaysoft.com become an actual site.

A snakeden.org site got slashdotted today! My poor servers on their DSL and cable modem connections took a merciless beating, but managed to survive. Due to the bandwidth constraints, MIT was kind enough to give us a mirror and so I redirected all traffic to that space.

The site in question is Halluc's halluc.snakeden.org site which has information about his 1999 railgun project.

It's a new year, and I'm a busy Systems Administrator now (too busy to work on this site. Yes, I suck, verily.)

Here's the stuff for Big Ben

06-21-2000

My day job and my night coding for my project with George has kept me busy, busy, busy. No time for the site or the BBS. I'd like to take care of things here soon, and at least update some of the items. When I do, I'll post an update here, natually.

04-23-2000

The BBS should be 24/7 again as I now have my cable modem access back up and running. The main web/dns/etc stuff will remain on the currect server, however.

Well, in light of my streaming RealVideo feed being too much of a hassle at 56k, I've opted to go to a snap-da-frames webcam. I'm using ChillCam to snap the pictures and FTP them up the snakeden.org server, but the code that makes the thumbnails, rotates them, and makes the page layout is all mine.
Take a look at my WebCam Page.
You may see me, an empty room, or what I'm watching on tv with my tv tuner card. =)

02-25-2000

I know it has been a while since I've made any updates here, but that's been due to my productivity going elsewhere. More specifically, it has gone into the web-based game I've been working on with a friend of mine which is still far from completion, and projects like an art therapy gallery that I did for Fuzzy Martian's group.

The webcam is down most of the time nowadays due to lack of interest(can't blame ya) and the fact that I like watching tv via my tv tuner card, so the cam would be down on all of those occasions, anyway =)

Continuing it's tradition of bringing you the latest in uninteresting crap since 1992, the Snake's Den proudly presents a live video feed from my living room has been added to my RealMedia Page. The stream is being brought to you via RealProducer G2 on an old Cyrix 150+ Box and RealServer G2 running on my Linux box here at home(not the same as the primary RealServer that hosts all of my pre-recorded video clips). It should be up just about any time I'm dialed into the internet, unless I'm actually using the video capture card to watch TV or what have you =P

12-26-1999

The automatic thumbnail generating code for my Pictures Section now automates the whole process for me for jpegs as well, which is the native format of my camera. So, even more pictures are being added. Oh, joy!

12-22-1999

The Snake's Den BBS is Alive Again!
Having said that, it is on my 56k dial-in at home, so it is obviously only up when I'm dialed-in. However, I'm usually online from around 1pm - 2am local AZ time at _least_, if not more. You can access the Snake's Den by telnetting in to bbs.snakeden.org. I'll be adding the Java Telnet App to allow access to the BBS directly from the web, and I'll try to write a script that hopefully will let you know when the BBS is and is not up soon. If you had an account before, and for understandable reasons you've forgotten your password, just e-mail me and tell me your old handle(even though I should probably know it) and I'll e-mail your password back to you.

12-20-1999

The automatic thumbnail generating code for my Pictures Section is completed, so expect to see some piccys taken with the ol' digital camera to begin appearing soon.

12-19-1999

Minor enhancement to the stats gifs on the Distributed.Net Stats Page. The combined size of the images was ~130k before, and now is only ~35k, which makes for much quicker loading, to be sure.

And for that matter, I've optimized all of the basic images on my site, so as a whole, the images for the basic layout of all my pages are about 15% smaller. Yay!

I've also recently upgraded the server to Apache 1.3.9 with PHP v4.0 beta3. I've been doing a lot of behind-the-scenes work on the site over the last month, and things look like I might end up having some time to finally start adding some content to this site =)

11-22-1999

Not that it should be noticeable per se, but I've done some very minor optimization of my code for Netscape, MS IE, MS Pocket IE(you can see the text now, eh?), and Lynx. Woo-woo.

Also, I've added the Technical Info section to the site.

11-21-1999

I've added the RealMedia page to my site, which for the most part contains snippets of the faded glory of a band geek =)

11-19-1999

For my distributed.net efforts, I have added my stats for the CSC contest to my already ongoing stats for RC5. The CSC 56-bit code cracking contest started just a few days ago. Kinda nice to be ranked in the top few hundred instead of in the top 18,000 places =)

And now that Jason has analog up and running, I've got site stats for my web page. An actual link other than on this page will be added as soon as I created a technical info type page for the site.

11-17-1999

Well, for one thing, the site actually exists, as primative as it happens to be. All I have now is the basic layout and concept of my new site, as I am having to start from scratch due to a total loss of my old site. I'll be adding more and refining as I go.
